As a parent, we know you want to keep your child safe and healthy at all times. Unfortunately, accidents happen, and sometimes, they can affect your child’s teeth and gums. In those moments, you need to know what to do to keep your child comfortable and avoid long-term damage.

That is where emergency pediatric dentistry comes in! In case of a dental emergency, it is important to remain calm and contact our office as soon as possible. Our pediatric dentists will provide guidance on how to care for your child until you can visit our office.

Some common dental emergencies in children include:

  • Knocked-out teeth
  • Broken or chipped teeth
  • Toothaches
  • Dental abscesses

If your child has a knocked-out tooth, try to gently place it back in its socket and have them bite down on a piece of gauze. If you cannot replace the tooth, place it in a cup of milk or saliva and bring it to our office.

For broken or chipped teeth, rinse your child’s mouth with warm water and apply a cold or ice pack to ease swelling. If your child is experiencing tooth pain or swelling, rinse their mouth with warm salt water and give them over-the-counter pain relief medication as directed.

Remember, if your child experiences a dental emergency, do not hesitate to call us here at Children’s Crossing Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Jeffrey K.
